Musix.es and all it’s sub-domains have been recently gone offline and probably will be for some time. Because of domain ownership we might not be able to continue using the former site (although all data is safe!).

Warscape Sonata is a radio art production that remixes information related to the drug war in Mexico.

RSS news channels, microblogging hashtags, and viral videos are used as sources for an electronic registry of the historic moment of militarized Mexico. The information obtained from these sources is manipulated by software to extract sound archives which are then used to create a radio production that places aesthetic emphasis on the media aspect of the war.

Warscape Sonata also highlights the way in which Mexico’s civilian population experiments with information technologies to confront propaganda, social control and fear.

Technique

The Warscape Sonata radio piece is based on following proceses: Hashtag Bot, Shootgun Beat and Mashup. Details of this creative path is at the site.

Horgand is a JACK capable organ client with presets and some effects incorporated. It generates the sound in real time like a FM synthesizer. As a result of this, you can change the frequency of all the drawbars and add some special effects. It features auto-accompaniment, looped drums, and a bass line in a wave table way.

In the DSSI plug-in the edition is not allowed, use the standalone package to create new sounds/banks.

Holharm aims to be a smart harmonizer plug-in using the smbPitchShifther engine available on http://www.dspdimension.com in periods of 128 frames.

Holharm uses a double harmonizer engine, you can define the interval for each channel.

Darktable is a virtual lighttable and darkroom for photographers which manages your digital negatives in a database and lets you view them through a zoomable lighttable. It also enables you to develop raw images and enhance them.

It tries to fill the gap between the many excellent existing free raw converters and image management tools (such as ufraw or f-spot). The user interface is built around efficient caching of image metadata and mipmaps, all stored in a database. the user will always be able to interact, even if the full resolution image is not yet loaded.

Goomf is a simple Mono synthesizer, FM based, with six operators. The future plan is to add the analog filter code of ZynAddSubFx.

Based on Steve Harris’s fantastic harmonic LADSPA effect, this plug-in tries to be a smart exciter helped with MIDI chord info and applying this info to the harmonic magnitudes. If no MIDI info is coming it can be used as a plain exciter.

The way of these magnitudes are changed with the MIDI chord info is right now experimental and sure needs to be revised.

Dynamic changes can not be applied on non harmonic/melodic sounds (instruments like drums and more specific like Hi Hat, Ride, Crash) because they do not depend on the chord harmony. For this kind of sounds use this plug-in like a plain exciter.
